About The Cove:
In 1911 a telegraph station was stationed here giving the Cove it’s name. In the Early 1920s  Albert Wastell, owner of the 400 acres surrounding the cove, facilitated the establishment of a Japanese salmon saltery.  A sawmill was built to cut logs and build boxes for shipping.  However, the introduction of cardboard and the closure of the salmon saltery, Wastell and his new partner Alec McDonald faced the depression selling lumber in the surrounding coastal communities.

Wastell and MacDonald made it through the 1930’s and business picked up with the demand of the 2nd World War.  The population of the cove started to swell.  Men came to work at the sawmill and brought their families which led to the need of a school, post office, and more infrastructure. With the cove’s isolation the residents became a tight knit community, turning to each other for their entertainment. During this time Albert Wastell’s son Fred became a prominent community leader; running the sawmill and taking care of the Cove’s needs.

In the early 1980’s the present owners of Telegraph Cove Resorts, Gordie and Marilyn Graham, began development of a campground and marina.  They could never have dreamed of the success of their venture. In the summer months the cove is bustling with fishermen, whale watchers, kayakers, and curious tourists who have come to take in great sightseeing and take a peak into history.
